Letter to my relative in Singapore / Sunday, March 27, 2011 @ 5:21 PM
Dear Mdm , I felt so fortunate to be one of the survivors of the tsunami when I was in Japan for my business trip. During the time the tsunami hit Japan, I was cooking my favourite Ramen for my dinner. It was my first time experiencing an tsunami and I was scared out of my wits. The ground began shaking tremendously and screaming and screeched rented the air in the 5-star hotel I was staying. Before I knew it, a magnitude 8.9 earthquake had struck me. My neighbours ran out of their rooms and everything went haywire. In desperation, I followed the crowd. Everyone was unable to walk properly as we staggered our way down the flight of stairs. When I reached the ground floor, the building began to create a racket, then it collasped in a split second. As my hotel was situated near the sea, I could see a giant wave of water moving at the speed of lightning approaching me. 'TSUNAMI" was what that came to my mind at that instant, and I began darting away from the tsunami as fast as my legs could carry me. I followed the majority to a high building to bring myself to sanctuary. I was traumatised as I saw the wave crushing and destroying the small buildings built near the sea. The sight of people losing their lives infront of me was embedded in my mind forever. Now in Japan we are experiencing nuclear crisis as radiation filled one part of Japanese. I hope could return to Singapore as soon as possible to celebrate your birthday three days from now. Sincerely, WenJie
